Mea Culpa means to assume fault – to take responsibility
if you will. Leadership is a unique balance of direction and accountability. The best leaders are not only progressive thinkers,
but also very deliberate in their actions. This means the responsibilities they assume are from more controlled actions. Do
you find yourself in defensive situations? Etch yourself in the decision making process early, monitor the process, and assess
the impact of the results. Big jobs and minor tasks… Mea Culpa!

11/18/2010 - Visibility
Marketing and advertising are still a big deal in business; believing otherwise is a complete fallacy. This is a
business owner’s priority. You have to be noticed, tested, and appreciated to reach your peak visibility. Try these
3 steps:
- Expertise – You are an
expert in your field. Claim it! Speak with authority. Showcase your knowledge in your blogs, interviews, and biographies.
People will trust in you as you trust in yourself.
- Marketing Strategy – Are you promoting yourself in key places where your customers are located?
What methods are you using to increase your virtual footprint? How well does your website communicate with your customers?
- Don’t hide behind your
computer – There’s still great power in the face to face relationship. Are you a member of organizations that
help you to interact with potential clients? When given the opportunity to introduce yourself to someone new, take it! You
never know the opportunities that may be missed because you didn’t venture out. Try a non-profit organization that ignites
your passion.

9/13/2010 - Negotiations!
Every business person is a negotiator. By definition, Negotiation
is “a decision making process among interdependent parties who do not share identical preferences”. No matter
if it’s the art of a simple sale or the closing of a major deal, negotiations sustain the business life cycle. People
often get nervous when opposing opinions are presented. Embrace the differences and learn from the experiences. Here are a
few helpful hints to get through your next negotiation.
- Know everything will be resolved in
3 Main Steps: Exploration, Bidding and Bargaining, and Settling
- Know what you’re not willing to compromise before you start
- Research your opposition and get a feel of their “play book”
- Seek advice from an experienced business consultant
- Go in with an open mind, a true desire for resolution, and be prepared to walk away if the deal
is not in your best interest.

- Be You
There’s something about you that’s a commodity. You and your entity are valued based
on that unique trait that’s admired by others. When you second guess your talents you offer a disservice to your value
and subsequently your brand. Identify You. I listened to a phenomenal speaker last week that reinforced, if you’re building
your brand and “You”.com is not a part of it, you’re missing the boat.
Identify You – Build You
– Be You!

In speaking with a business
associate yesterday afternoon, he said something that really made me mull over his words. I asked his reasons behind an awesome
initiative we’re tapping into. Among several motivating statements, he said “I’m taking back my time”.
I admired the assertiveness of “taking”, the ownership of “my”,
and the acknowledgement of the precious gift of “time”. Well Said (OM)!
7/5/10 Creativity – An Entrepreneur’s Precious Commodity!
In your journey of discovering
who are you, your business, and your vision, your creativity is a precious commodity.
“Your mind is just like
a parachute, it only works when it’s open.” It is not about more effort or more capital. It’s about
the quality of your radical thinking & the backbone to act on it. Having an open mind does not mean having an easily impressionable
mind, but rather it’s the ability to consider the merit behind the information around you and assessing its benefit
to you.
One hour of increased
brain activity via thinking or experiencing new stimuli can make you smarter, more energetic, more creative, more sociable,
and more open to new experiences and ways of thinking. Here are a few known ways to stimulate creativity: (1) Read backwards
or upside down (2) memorize the numbers of PI, (3) increase physical activity & challenge the limits of your body, (4)
Learn how to spin your pencil around your thumb, (5) try new foods, (6) travel, & (7) see movies out of your normal genre.

6/18/10 Entrepreneur Tips: "The Promise
of Accountability: What does it take to make change stick in our lives? We all want to improve & grow, but actually following
through is another thing. Many external consequences are imposed 2 keep our actions in check; from church to the law. But
what keeps u accountable internally? Don't simply make a choice; make a decision
& stick to it. Tell the world & hold yourself responsible."
6/8/10 - Branding
What's in a name? Branding is
so important from the onset. Rushing into a permanent decision may bring about regret. Think... Does your business name speak
to your purpose? Can you grow with it? Does it give a confusing message? It's not just a name, it's your brand.
